Karmal Spaeth
Karmal Spaeth, Acupuncturist, Herbalist

Karmal is gentle, compassionate and inviting.  Her healing presence holds a space for you to relax, reflect and find some light upon your journey. She creates a respite for you within her treatments – a sanctuary where your body, mind and spirit can heal. Karmal explains, “A well designed acupuncture treatment is a combination of medical science and artful poetry that resonates within.” Karmal enjoys working in partnership with you to design acupuncture treatments that will help you discover a place of balance.

Karmal’s Masters Degree in Acupuncture is from the Academy for Five Element Acupuncture in Gainesville, FL, a school that focuses as much on the inner personal development of the practitioner as it does on the outer attainment of knowledge and skills. Five Element acupuncture is based on the five elements of Water, Wood, Fire, Earth and Metal. The patterns between these five elements define the flow of energy from season to season not only in Nature, but also in our bodies. How we live, and how we feel in our bodies is understood by the relationships the elements have with each other in nature. The elements not only correspond to the seasons, but also our emotions, and how our organs interact with each other in our body. Five Element acupuncture is particular in its ability to focus on aiding the body’s energetic movement, allowing fluidity of emotion while offering the capacity to be centered, grounded and balanced. It is found to be especially effective for treating chronic health conditions, digestive issues, anxiety, chronic stress, sleep disturbances, and support during difficult life transitions. Understanding your physical and emotional symptoms as messengers, Karmal’s goal is to help your body create the balance that it is seeking.

Karmal is a Diplomate of Acupuncture certified by the National Certification Commision of Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine and a Licensed Acupuncturist by the South Carolina Board of Medical Examiners. Continuing her studies post-grad, Karmal has attended a Whole Heart Connection workshop with Thea Elijah. She has also obtained certification in Facial Rejuvenation and continuing education credits in Ulcerative Colitis as well as Pediatrics.

Karmal became charmed by Charleston when she was stationed here with AmeriCorps and was enthusiastic to be able to move back years later with her family. She is excited to join Blue Heron and support the community with her insights into Five Element acupuncture.
