Setting Healthy Boundaries

Women often struggle with establishing healthy boundaries - as partners, mothers, coworkers, daughters and friends! Many of us have internalized the belief that setting boundaries is selfish or rude so we give and give at the expense of our own well-being. In reality, setting healthy boundaries is essential to care for your own fundamental needs, and a crucial component of self-love and self-care.

Putting boundaries in place helps you become more self-aware, improve relationships, take better care of yourself, learn to say ‘no’, establish better work life balance, and feel more fulfilled and less stressed.

In order for boundaries to be successful, you have to get really clear on what is important to you and why you are setting the boundary. Here are some suggestions to get you started:

→ Get comfortable saying ‘no’ without guilt
→ Say ‘yes’ because you want to, not out of obligation
→ Ask for what you want and need from your loved ones
→ Be clear and specific
→ Make self-care a priority

Establishing boundaries takes time and it can be challenging - give yourself some grace! Breathe, check-in with yourself and ask yourself what you need most in that moment.
