Meet Nicole LaFountain

Nicole has been practicing at Blue Heron since January 2021. She is dedicated first and foremost to educating her patients to help them make informed decisions, and empower them as they walk through their wellness journey. Her hope is that every patient's experience is comfortable and tailored to exactly what they need since each patient is a unique being. Below, we asked Nicole to share her answers to the questions that she is asked most frequently during new patient treatments.

“How many needles do you use?”
There are a lot of factors in play when deciding how many needles to use and where to put them, and every acupuncturist will have a different answer. Nicole’s approach leans toward “less is more”. Each needle used is a message or input the body receives and interprets, Nicole tends to use the least amount of needles possible so as to not overwhelm or confuse the body with multiple inputs.

“Do you only put needles in the affected area?”

Choosing what points to use can also vary greatly, and no two treatments will be the same. The body is connected like a web, this is explained in Chinese medicine by channels, and pathways used during acupuncture treatments. A channel could start in the foot and connect to the eye as the liver channel does, explaining why a point in the foot or ankle could help an issue with the eye. Due to this, during a typical treatment, points used may be nowhere near the affected area or seemingly connected to the issue at hand. Nicole endeavors to never have too many needles in one area, trying to create an even flow of qi in the body.

Nicole offers acupuncture, luxury acupuncture + massage treatments and herbal medicine consultations. Learn more about Nicole in our virtual meet and greet.
