PCOS Awareness Month

Did you know September is PCOS awareness month?

Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) is a genetic, hormone, metabolic and reproductive disorder that affects up to 15% of women in the U.S. (over 20% in some parts of the world). The purpose of this month is to raise awareness about PCOS and advocate for better understanding, support, access to treatment options, further research and improve the lives of women and girls affected by PCOS.

Symptoms can include pelvic pain, irregular periods, weight gain, unwanted hair growth, frequent ovarian cysts, and insulin resistance which may lead to diabetes. PCOS is the leading cause of female infertility and a precursor for other serious conditions including obesity, type 2 diabetes, cardiovascular disease and endometrial cancer.
