Winter In Chinese Medicine

In Chinese Medicine, winter is a time of reflection and rejuvenation, to slow down and conserve energy. Winter is an opportunity to focus on the health and spirit of the kidneys, which are the center of energy in the Chinese Medicine system. It is a time to nourish your body and boost the kidney energy with self-care:

  • Eat more cooked foods, stews and soups and drink hot tea
Add warm natured foods to your diet: beef, lamb, turkey, chickpeas, lentils, cashews, walnuts, black beans, oats, quinoa, onions, bell peppers, plums, mangoes, oranges

  • Spices are a great way to add heat: Chili powder, red pepper flakes, cayenne, garlic, ginger, nutmeg, mustard, turmeric, cinnamon

  • Maintain an appropriate balance between activity and rest

  • Seek out things that bring you light and joy and take time for internal work such as meditation or journaling

  • Schedule regular acupuncture, massage, neurostructural integration or health + wellness coaching sessions
